买方害怕货款支付后收不到货物，而卖方担心货物发出去后得不到货款，这就是国际贸易的心结所在。
正是因为这种心理，信用证应运而生，它解决了买卖双方的担心的问题。但是信用证也有缺点，比如：银行费用高，对双方束缚比较大，涉及的文件多，繁琐，等等。

当然对于金额比较大的贸易采用信用证是非常好的因为对买卖双方都安全可靠可控只需要审证无误执行按照信用证执行就非常安全，但是对于金额比较小的贸易采用信用证就不太可取了。而且信用证还是占用买方的一定资金的。
所以，做国际贸易，在支付方式上，要具体情况具体分析，采用相应的付款方式，不要机械。
