舒服 sth.的人或事物不包含在内,其后常接名词、代词、动词不定式、介词短语或从句等.except for也可表示“除......以外”多用于引出使陈述不能完 全成立的事物,有时也强调美中不足之处。

让步状语从句的常用引导词为： though 和 although ，例如：
Though he is young , he knows a lot about science .
Although she is old . she is still in good health .
注意事项：
1) though / although 不能与 but 出现在同一句中，例如：
Though / Although he is poor , he is happy .( 正)
Though / Although he is poor , but he is happy .( 误）
He is poor , but he is happy .（正）
2) though 前面可以加 even 组成连词词组，意为"虽然、尽管、即使"，例如：
I ' ll come to see you this evening even though I can stay only a few minutes .
目的状语从句
目的状语从句的常用引导词为： so that 和 in order that ，
例如：
I wrote down the address so that I wouldr ' t forget it .
He took some medicine for his cold in order that he could get well sooner .
注意事项：
1）如上面的例句所示， so that 和 in order that 引导的从句中常用情态动词 can / could . may / might . will / would .
2) so that 和 in order that 引导的从句分别可以与 so as to 和 in order to 不定式转换，
例如：
We must study hard so that / in order that we can serve the people better in the future .→
We must study hard so as to / in order to serve the people better in the future .

whether or not
例句：

一个方法快速分清定语从句先行词的隔离，一句话就可以说清，那就是去掉修饰成分，具体怎么去掉修饰成分，我们来看下面的例句。
这个句子，Itisanoldsuitcaseinthehousewhichrepresentsthehappinessofmyfamily.到底先行词是house呢还是suitcase呢？可能很多人模模糊糊，今天我们就来揭下它的神秘面纱。
第一步：理清思路，找准修饰成分
请看这个句子：The number of the boys is increasing. 像这种of the boys，加介词的通常都是修饰语，因为真正的主语名词是不需要太多变化的。这样去掉 of the boys, 那么句子就清爽无比，就是the number, 这个数字当然就是一个单数的概念了；
第二步：放入到定语从句先行词的隔离中检验
新概念英语第二册中有一个句子， Jasper White is one of those rare people who believes in ancient myths. 去掉修饰的of those rare people, 就变成了直接的对象是one, 所以谓语动词就使用单数；
第三步：归纳整理其它的隔离成分，其实多数是修饰成分，我们统统去掉那些成分，整个句子就会清爽无比
1. For workers it can mean an end to the security, benefits and sense of important that came from being a loyal employee.
这里的先行词就是sense， 整句意思就是对于员工来说，这种做法意味着失去以前的待遇和安全，以及一名忠实员工所具有的主人翁精神（sense of importantce）,重点在这个感觉和精神上面；
2. The mineral elements from the soil that are usable by the plant must be dissolved in the soil solution before they can be taken into the root.
土壤中可供植物利用的矿物成分，只有先溶解在土壤中然后才能被植物的根部吸收。
把from the oil这个修饰成分去掉，就变成矿物成分就是唯一的先行词。
现在我们回到Itisanoldsuitcaseinthehousewhichrepresentsthehappinessofmyfamily.就非常简单了。
去掉in the house这个修饰成分, 真正的先行词就是old suitcase了。
同时，我们可从in the house 这个定冠词the看出蛛丝马迹，既然是特指的房屋，只能用非限制从句，怎么可能用限制性定语从句，而一个房间里是可能有很多个suitcase，这里用哪个能勾起我幸福家庭的suitcase，自然而然就应该是先行词了。

♦ The house had its charms, not the least of which was the furniture that came with it.
这座房子有其吸引人的地方，比如和房子配套的家具就很出彩。【吸引力；亮点】
注意：这个例句中还有两点值得学习：一是短语come with，表示“与……配套；搭配”；二是短语not the least of which，其中which是非限制性定语从句引导词，代指前面的一系列事物，本句中代指charms。not the least of用于引起读者注意，强调一系列事物中最重要的因素。
再如： There are compelling reasons in favor of another moon landing, not the least of which is trying to pinpoint the moon age. 由句中可知，在诸多的理由中，最令人信服的是能精准确定月球年龄。

他这个人魅力十足，卓尔不群。【（个人）魅力】
♦ He even charmed Mrs Prichard, carrying her shopping and flirting with her, though she's 83.
